To see possibilities with God is an act of faith. It is when we choose to believe in the word of God, over and above what we see before us. Choosing to see in faith, can be a defining moment and a lifetime commitment. Achsah was a biblical woman who chose to see the possibilities with God. They are drawn in to the nativity story and included in the wonder of God’s redemption plan for humanity. But God’s timing is also perfect for them as individuals – in a way which is forever beyond their understanding. God is Sovereign and over all, and yet in His majesty He is still a relational God, and our loving Heavenly Father.

Lydia of Thyatira is known by her profession as a successful, businesswoman. But her character is revealed in her actions, she is a woman who is seeking God and has her priorities right. Lydia, figuratively, opens the door of her heart to receive the good news of the gospel. At the same time, she, literally, opens the door of her home. She is willing to offer hospitality and invites the apostle Paul, and his travelling companions, to come and stay at her house.

Following Jesus’ birth Mary and Joseph travel, the short distance from Bethlehem, to attend the Temple in Jerusalem. A new mother was required to go to the Temple, forty days after the birth of a son, to offer a sacrifice for her purification . The firstborn of any children were also, as prescribed by the law of Moses, presented at the Temple and dedicated to serve the Lord. Jesus’ parents are following these requirements and it is there in the Temple courts that Anna daughter of Phanuel, is drawn into the event.

Abigail took a risk to diffuse a volatile situation, and used everything she had to divert danger. She revealed herself to be a courageous, and prudent, woman of faith. Her story has the power to speak truth into our lives today.
